So many of my clients who are past a certain age think that they don’t have to eat healthy or exercise anymore because they don’t have to impress anyone, but that couldn’t be further from the truth. It’s actually the most crucial time to do both, and midriff aside, why wouldn’t you want to feel amazing in your skin and to be energized every day?!

Exactly!

All you need are some simple tips you can use without having to refinance to afford everything! I’m not going to tell you to make drastic diet changes or even join a gym. Just start small and you will soon feel the benefits!

MOVE
First things first, you do have to move your body ideally everyday. Start with morning walks to kick-start that metabolism, get your lymphatic system moving and help with your cardio and heart health. Over time when you’re feeling ready, add in some interval running. This, along with adding better nutrition in to your diet, is going to give you extra energy to face the day.

RESISTANCE TRAINING FOR STRONG BONES
Now, if you are already leading an active lifestyle, that awesome, let’s just see where we can add some improvements. Are you doing some resistance training which is going to help bone health, give muscle tone and support to joints and ligaments? Ease into this by beginning with body weight movements that are easy to do in the comfort of your home or outdoors.
Keep it to basic functional movements like squats, push-ups, lunges with high knees, and planks. With all of these movements, you can regress or progress depending on your fitness level.

MUSCLE SORENESS
I’m not going to lie, starting exercise or stepping it up by adding extra resistance or duration can sometimes leave you with sore muscles – this isn’t a bad thing! To help combat this there are a few things you can do.

Firstly – I suggest moving that body again the next day to help get the blood pumping and release those sore muscles.

Secondly – Stretch it out, either with a foam roller or static stretches. This is going to feel really good on that sore body.

Lastly – Magnesium is a Godsend to help calm the nervous system, aid recovery and muscle cramping and even aids in sleep.

Remember, start small and continue to add in new healthy habits so it is maintainable AND realistic!
