One of the greatest freedoms we have in Australia is having space to exercise. It may not always be in the gym, and we may not always have the time, the flexibility or the money to pay for a membership, but what we do have is space and equipment…our body.
You can use your home, a park, the backyard, the smallest strip of concrete, or even your garage. It CAN be done. It doesn’t need to be or look fancy. Sweat isn’t fancy; it’s a reward for the love you’re giving your body. Here are 4 ways to utilise your body anywhere, anytime.
- Ladies, that fun pelvic floor strengthening can happen anywhere on the ground. Lay on your carpet, wooden floorboard, or even your bed. Aim to push your belly button to the back of your spine and place your tongue to the roof of your mouth. Boom! Even as you read this and follow this you will feel a pull down below. This is your pelvic floor which is so important for women when we give birth and beyond. It holds us together and can be done anywhere.
- Invest $3-10, head to Kmart or Target and grab yourself some mini hand weights (about 1-5kg) and workout anywhere you choose. Don’t know what to do? Jump online and look at the millions of YouTube workouts that are done at home. You can squat and lunge in your house. You can do push-ups in the kitchen. Just find 20 minutes…no excuses!
- Buy a skipping rope and let it become your best friend. It is one of the greatest cardio workouts of all time. I take mine with me whenever I travel. It’s lightweight and can pack a punch even if used for 10 minutes. Start with a number in your head 20, 30, 100 skips continuously and repeat it 3-5 times. Want to make it harder when you stop in between each round? Then keep doing cardio…steps ups, push-ups, sit-ups.
- Grab a chair or a seat and work those triceps. Women are always wanting their arms to be toned and not the “tuck shop arms” that many women worry about. So pump out the tricep dips and use those mini weights to lift. Want more ideas? Lift heavy bowls or platters you have in the house or carry your baby a lot hahaha! Work out those arms when doing a grocery shop and always take the stairs, not the lift.
Remember those who get ahead always take the road less travelled!
